Tears in Rain – Blade Runner Final Cut

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

The Final Cut is by far my favorite version. It just seems so flawless to me. No annoying voice-over narration, the dove background is fixed properly, a few extra seconds of blood / gore here and there is restored. The audio and video are beautifully remastered. I just love the Final Cut. Still, it’s a great movie in any form, but the Final Cut is just outstanding to me, even on regular DVD which is what I have it on.

The film is about neurosis in society. Roy represents Deckards real self, and the one who has really experienced the depth of life. He is awake. Deckard is asleep (as he is unaware he is a replicant), like most of us, asleep to our true potential.. due to the constraints we have in the lives we live. When we die (or when we undergo a deep spiritual transformation), we become momentarily aware of who we really are.. the depth of our existence. This is why the ending is so powerful. Thats it.

omg! The shot at 1:34 where the bird flies away.. I thought it looked silly in the director’s cut, with the three little chimneys spewing their crap in the air and the semblant of blue sky in between the clouds, reminded me of those Greenpeace messages inserted into movies. Im glad they adressed it, and hey, the shot actually looks amazing

The Tears in Rain speech, as well as “It’s too bad she won’t live… but then again who does?”, are two of the greatest lines in the history of cinema.
